I’m just starting to process my photographs from the Ghan / Alice Springs / Uluru part of my trip. Arrived back this morning on a QantasConnect (“National Air” but with Qantas Connect paint job) 717. Lovely flight over central Australia, saw a lot of waterways and salt lakes – many with water in them. Very green at the moment. Landing in Perth was quite bumpy due to wind, plane waving all over the place.
I thought I’d dig out my old software which plots where I’ve been by air on the Winkel-Tripel projection, so here it is:
Emigration to Australia: 17937 kilometres 1 equitorial crossings LCA 2001: 6551 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings AUUG 2002: 5402 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings AUUG 2005: 5402 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings Japan 2006: 15883 kilometres 2 equitorial crossings UK 2007: 31973 kilometres 2 equitorial crossings Ireland 2007: 769 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings UK 2008: 32097 kilometres 2 equitorial crossings Wales to Ireland 2008: 358 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings Ireland to UK 2008: 484 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings Jakarta 2008: 9586 kilometres 4 equitorial crossings US 2008: 40707 kilometres 2 equitorial crossings UK/Jakarta 2009: 31332 kilometres 4 equitorial crossings Mumbai/Jakarta 2009: 17420 kilometres 4 equitorial crossings UK 2010: 29004 kilometres 2 equitorial crossings Adelaide 2011: 2116 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings Alice Springs 2011: 1976 kilometres 0 equitorial crossings 23 equatorial crossings 249006 kilometres 27 airports visited CYVR, EDDF, EGBB, EGCC, EGFF, EGKK, EGLL, EHAM, EICK, EIDW ENGM, KLAS, KLAX, KSFO, OMDB, RCTP, RJAA, RJOO, VABB, WIII WMKK, WSSS, YBAS, YMML, YPAD, YPPH, YSSY
This last trip was thus (roughly) 4092 km by air (assuming great circle routes). There was another ~ 1000km of bus travel to and from and around Uluru. Add to that the 1500km trip on the Ghan train from Adelaide to Alice Springs, and I covered about 6500km on this trip!
